Second XV Rugby - Match Report

Foyle

After the two hour trip to Londonderry to play Foyle College, Ballyclare weren’t in the best of form. Howevr, this didn’t last very long, as almost immediately after the kick off everyone was switched on. Constant pressure in the first half led to Ballyclare getting five points, scored by Mark Weatherup. The kick although wasn’t converted, due to weather conditions.

Throughout the first-half great pressure Ballyclare exerted on the opposing team, but this advantage wasn’t turned into points due to handling errors.

Harry glover made a break which led to him scoring, this was to be the last score of the game. Josh converted to make the score 12 - 0.

The second half proved to be a different story with Foyle exerting pressure on us due to the following wind which had picked up over half time.

Continuous pressure proved to no avail as our defence stayed strong and pushed them back. Jerry proved a good move as it opened gaps for many players, but as in the first half, the handling errors failed to convert pressure t points.

When we thought we had it won, their number eight off a lineout took a run and his weight and strength carried him over the line. This was proving to be a tight match. The out half converted the kick and the score lay as 12 - 7.

With minutes to go, Ballyclare kept the pressure on and then the whistle blew. The game over to the relief of Ballyclare. We returned from the Maiden City rather pleased that we had held on to get such a good victory.
