Progress Report on the Boys' Badminton Team (February 2008)

Ballyclare High School ’s senior badminton team of Andrew and Simon Shannon, Phillip Ross and Lyle McFarland have had a very successful season so far in the Ulster Schools division 1 league. The first match of the season was a difficult match at home against a strong Wallace High team. The boys played some great badminton and came out 5-1 winners. The guys then followed this up with two impressive victories beating Friends Grammar School 4-2 and Bangor Grammar 5-1. The team surprising got all 6 league points against RBAI when they had to concede due to injuries to their team.

The final league match against Sullivan Upper saw the team yet again play exceptional badminton to win 6-0 and finish top of the division 1 Schools’ league. This has then qualified the team for the Ulster School’s League Cup final on the 6th March were they will play runners up in the league Friends, Lisburn.

In their Ulster Schools’ Cup campaign the team recorded a fine 6-0 win away to Coleraine Inst, Kyle Crawford deputising for the unavailable McFarland. The team are scheduled to play Bangor Grammar in the cup semi-final on Friday 29 th February at home.

Junior teams completed their Ulster Schools programmes with the Year 10 boys getting through to the semi finals but losing to a strong Friends team.
