Girls’ Badminton 2005 - 2006

Senior Girls’ Badminton

This season, the senior girls’ badminton team began in the Division 1 League with a tough away fixture at Lisburn against Wallace High ‘A’ team, immediately followed by a match against Wallace High ‘B’ team. Despite a good performance by Ballyclare, Wallace High won both matches 6-0. Then Ballyclare senior girls came up against Royal and Prior School in Raphoe but were narrowly beaten by the strong opposition. The last League match was against Coleraine High School and the result was 5-1 to Coleraine, despite good performances from the whole team.

In the Cup competition, the senior girls faced Belfast High School in an away fixture. In a closely contested match, the team was narrowly beaten 4-2 by the Belfast school and was therefore unable to progress further in the Cup competition.

Despite the lack of significant success throughout the year, the senior girls’ team has worked hard and had an enjoyable season. We look forward to competing again next year.

Junior Girls’ Badminton

This year the junior girls’ badminton team had a very competitive season. In the League competition, the girls encountered tough opponents, narrowly losing against Coleraine High School. It was a very tightly contested game with Ballyclare only losing by two points.

Although the girls fought well throughout the year, they were defeated by Bloomfield Collegiate who proved to be a very strong side. During the season, the team managed to build and improve upon their experience and relationships, working together effectively.

In the Cup, the junior girls’ team were defeated by Wallace High School, resulting in an unfortunate end to our Cup run. Yet, throughout the year, the skills and professionalism of the team have greatly developed and we look forward to another rewarding season next year.

Minor Girls’ Badminton

We started our season by playing against Wallace High ‘B’ team in the League competition which resulted in a draw of three sets each. Unfortunately, we lost by 5 points but we were not discouraged as Wallace had an excellent team. Our next opponents were Coleraine High School, who we defeated easily. Later in the season we played against Wallace High ‘A’ team but lost out to them. Having already beaten Coleraine, we managed to repeat that success.

In the Cup competition, we met up again with Wallace High ‘B’ team and this time managed to defeat them. This meant we were through to the semi-finals where we played against Sullivan Upper School. Unfortunately, we were knocked out.

Overall, we were very pleased with how we did in both the League and Cup competitions. We were runners up in the League and received medals for our efforts. We all feel that with the extra help in school from training coach, Harry Douglas, we have improved since September and were pleased with our performances.

U12 Girls’ Badminton

This season the U12 girls have played a number of different matches for Ballyclare High School. Our first match was a round robin tournament which was played at Friends’ School, Lisburn. There was some tough competition as we had to play against Coleraine High, Sullivan Upper and Friends’, the latter perhaps being the most difficult game. We played well but, unfortunately, only got third in the tournament. However, we did not let this result get us down.

For our Cup competition, we played away against Friends’ School in Lisburn. We knew that this match would be hard for us to win. Unfortunately, we lost and didn’t qualify for the semi-final. The good thing was that we did not let them have an easy win as we had played to the best our ability and we were all pleased with the result.

This year the U12 team have been very dedicated to training and playing in matches. In our training, we had the help of a coach, Harry Douglas, and he helped us to develop better skills for our matches. Mrs Brown and Miss Woods also helped us and we hope that next year we will become a stronger and more successful team.
