Ballyclare High 1st XV v Ulster U18 Development Squad
Ulster opened the game the strongest with their centre Neil Buchanen scoring the first try of the game under the posts. This was converted to leave the home side blushing, 7 - 0 down. Ballyclare picked themselves up and worked their way up the pitch. Wray scored Ballyclare’s opening try in the corner. The conversion was narrowly missed with the strong wind forcing the ball to fall short. Holmes then made a decisive break through the Ulster defence offloading to Wray for his second try, which was not converted either. The half time score line was 10 - 7 to a Ballyclare side which was rapidly gaining confidence. The second half was a much more open affair with both sides keen to throw the ball around and play attacking rugby. Ballyclare’s prolific hooker Logan scored two tries. Second centre Reid scored on the blindside. Jackson also outstripped the Ulster defence to score under the posts. An unconventional tactic was attempted by Ballyclare with prop Goulden and Logan both having a go at taking a conversion. |

Ballyclare put pressure on the Ulster defence |
Unfortunately neither was successful. Jackson did kick two conversions this half. The traffic was not one way with centre Wilson scoring for Ulster. Fiyin Olayisade the Ulster winger also scored an impressive try following an Ulster counter attack. The final score was 34 - 17 to Ballyclare. This is the last 1st XV match Mr Young and Mr Gault will be responsible for after many years of dedicated service. All the boys hope they have paid a fitting tribute to them for all they have done for rugby in the school. Thanks coaches from teams present and past!
