Report: against R.B.A.I (away)
Belfast High visited
Ballyclare on Saturday. Ballyclare, after an impressive 10 - 0 win over
RBAI, were looking to continue their winning streak. Ballyclare scored
early in the match thanks to a strong pack advance up the pitch. William
Goulden, after his recent debut for Ulster Schools, went over the line
from a short distance to score an excellent five points.
The next try was scored by fullback Matthew Holmes who was too fast for
Belfast High School’s wide defence and was able to run in to score at
the corner. Robert Logan also got on the score sheet in the first half
from a ruck close in, to finish a good half for Ballyclare.
In the second half Belfast High were playing against the wind and often
found it difficult to clear for good field position. Their best chance
came when their fullback found a gap in Ballyclare’s back line, streaked
through, only to be stopped five metres short of the line. The ball was
turned over in the ensuing ruck and was cleared by Ballyclare. Logan again
scored for Ballyclare, adding to his ever increasing tally of scores.
Wilson also scored in the second half, breaking down the blind side, cleverly
giving a dummy pass and running into the corner for Ballyclare’s fifth
try. Jackson scored two conversions to make the final score 29-0.
