1XV Report: against Ballymena Academy

Ballyclare played a strong Ballymena side on Wednesday and were hoping to add to their record of five consecutive wins. The first half was a low scoring event with Ballymena scoring an early penalty and putting pressure on Ballyclare for the opening part of the half. Ballyclare came back into the game as the half progressed and Jackson kicked two penalties in response leaving the first half score line 6-3 in Ballyclare’s favour.
The second half saw Ballyclare maintaining their momentum with a lineout in the Ballymena half giving a platform for Ballyclare’s backs to take it up the midfield. Ballyclare’s forwards then took the ball on and Logan scored from close in. Jackson kicked the conversion making the score line 13-3. This half was plagued by injuries with one Ballymena and two Ballyclare players having to leave the pitch. Ballymena then took the initiative and tried to find a passage through Ballyclare’s defence. They came close, with only an excellent tackle by wing forward Paul Robinson forcing a knock on when Ballymena were over the try-line. The game ended shortly after a Ballymena player was stopped a yard out, demonstrating the strong competitiveness of this game. Final score Ballyclare 1 3 Ballymena 3.

Final Score: Ballyclare 13 - Ballymena 3
